Yorke Peninsula III
From the people who bought you Yorke Peninsula 1 and 2
18/7/03 - 20/7/03
Well once again everyone that went had a great time.
Friday saw the first carload of Boardriders scoring a clean, glassy surf at "Richards". Mike christened his new board and was stoked.
The Manager's Lodge was an excellent choice and will probably serve as our "Base Camp" for all future surfing trips to Yorkes.
After a bit of a feed we got the fire going then the drinks and tall stories started to flow. This was briefly interrupted by a paper aeroplane contest which only proved that no-one in the house was studying aerodynamics.
Saturday saw a lovely sunny day and we all headed off for a surf. Pondie and Richards were only a few kilometres away so that was our first port of call. Richards was empty but still good so out we all went.
After some toasted cheese sandwiches and sitting in the sun out the front of "The Lodge" it was back on the road again and basically following tracks around Gleeson's Landing looking for potential surfspots. There were some picturesque spots that just needed a bit more swell and they would've been epic. We finally settled for a beach break near Point Annie and four of us headed out. After a few waves and lots of salt water it was back to the lodge for more feeding and story telling.
Despite the inclusion of lots of salad and vegetables it was none the less a delicious meal for all.
After the washing up we all headed to Cable Bay for a fire on the beach and even more tall tales.
Sunday morning saw some of the keener members load up the cars and race off for a few waves before we had to get back to the real world.
Lots of points have to go to Bo and Sam who managed to still get up for a "dawny" despite sleeping in front of the fire in the lounge room and putting up with Matt's snoring.
On Sunday morning the sand and the wetsuits were so cold and wet that it was warmer in the water. For those hardy souls that ventured into the water Sunday morning, this was by far the best surf. The dolphins surfing with us made it even more special.
