The west end of US 360 is in Danville VA. The shot below is from southbound Main Street, or VA highway 293/360:

Roberson, July 2006

Today US 360 begins to the east (left) along with Business US 58. The photo below is looking the opposite direction: we've just crossed the Dan River. Main Street used to be US 29 (that's the only reason I can think of why the US 360 designation begins at this intersection):

Storey, 2001

Note that photo was taken before the US 58 bypass was built, so the crossroad was still mainline US 58. To the right is South Boston Road, and the beginning of eastbound US 360. Note also that the west beginning of VA hwy. 360 is straight ahead. That highway is actually the original US 360: it heads back east, and ends at modern US 360 near South Boston! I don't know whether the end of old 360 was at this same intersection...

The photo below shows the east end of US 360, at its junction with VA highway 644 in Reedville VA:

Britton, 2001

When I was there a couple years earlier, I'm quite certain that assembly wasn't there, so I ended up driving all the way to the south end of Main Street, thinking that's where US 360 ended:

me, Oct. 1999

At the time, that was actually the end of VA 644 (not US 360), but I'm glad I shot that photo, because I found out later that US 360 did indeed end there, until 1954. The photo below is looking the opposite direction:

Roberson, Feb. 2007

Today that's the beginning of VA 644, but historically that was the beginning of US 360. About a mile ahead, we reach the current beginning of US 360, where VA 644 makes a sharp turn:

At far left you can see the backside of the assembly shown in the first Reedville photo above. Not far ahead is the first westbound confirming marker:

To me it's pretty astounding that a town beyond Richmond gets a mention on that sign... particularly Burkeville, population 500.
