US 470 was among the original routes of 1926 - a short little thing, running
from US 70 at Willard
NM to Albuquerque
(click those links to view photos). US 70, you might well ask? Yes, originally
US 70 followed what is now US 60 across New Mexico, and US 470 was the route
that connected it to Albuquerque (you might want to click on the link to the
map, above). When US 70 was rerouted in the early 1930's, US 470 was no longer
an appropriate number, so it was changed to US
366 [II].
