VF-3 Carrier Test Requirements
For the VF-3 Carrier Trainer Test mission, you'll be in the Hellcat. You MUST have your time set to 17:45 using CFO, and at 95% realism. That means G's on, sun glare on, limited ammo and fuel, and medium flight model. You must land on the Yorktown four(4) times consecutively without crashing. That means you are NOT allowed to just use your parking brake. You MUST use your hook. You ARE allowed to wave off though...Safety is most important. The reasons for these rules are simple. They didn't use the brake in World War 2, and you are expected to be able to land perfectly in calm weather most of the time. If you cant, this isnt exactly gonna be easy for you. This qualification is required to be an LSO, although you can be an LSO in training at any time.
Unless you've taken the test, or want to watch from the sidelines in a safe spot, do not land on the Essex carrier until given permission to do so. Youre allowed to sit at the end of the runway, near the merchant ship, on the starboard side of the carrier.
VF-3 LSO Test Requirements
Gentlemen, in order for you to Get LSO qualed, you must be able to help the Training Officer, and/or the Commanding Officer onto the carrier, as if they were complete morons three(3) times. They will tell you if the calls were good, what you need to pay more attention to, where you may have messed up, and will ultimately determine if you're ready to be an LSO. As I said, they are complete morons that must be treated as such. The only difference between the C.O. and T.O. and a 2 year old is that they dont need their hand held (but their crap stinks just as bad, and the still need the bottle). Be advised, being awarded LSO is the T.O's or CO's discretion. You MUST pass the Carrier Trainer Test in order to become an LSO. (if you cant fly, you cant help others fly)
.
the Landing Signal Officer test is much easier, your main goal is to get on deck, take your position on the right side (right behind the aft gun turrets as shown) heading approx. 113 degrees, get your guys home. There's a slight crosswind, and some clouds, but overall its a nice ride. Your Administrator will hold in the air until you're ready. When you are ready, say so. The Administrator will then begin. Try to keep your calls reasonably professional. Good luck.
