Members selected for duty in the Ceremonial Guard, except for administrative support billets, must meet the following criteria: * Minimum height of 6'0" (Petty Officers 5'10"; females 5'10") * Minimum test scores: BTB-GCT of 50, ASVB-WK 50 * Able to participate in ceremonies without the use of glasses, contact lenses are acceptable * Capable of strenuous marching/drilling and prolonged standing * Outstanding personal appearance, military bearing, and no unusual distinguishing features or poor facial complexion * Good moral character with evident respect for authority * Physically fit and superior natural posture * Eligible for assignment to Presidential Support Activity in accordance with SECNAVINST 5312.12B * A record free from conviction by court-martial, civic court (except for minor, non-repetitious traffic offenses), or non-judicial punishment during previous two years * Petty Officer with an outstanding leadership record Members of the Ceremonial Guard filling administrative billet (YN, SH, GMG and SK) ratings are not required to meet the above qualifications, with the exception of a clean record, but must be considered outstanding in their rating. First-term enlistment sailors are interviewed and selected for Ceremonial Guard duty as they complete their initial (Boot Camp) training at Naval Recruiting Center Great Lakes, Illinois. Once assigned to the Ceremonial Guard, new members go through a eight-week indoctrination training program conducted by current Ceremonial Guard members. After indoctrination, the new members are assigned to one of the specialized details. After training, those who make it go on to "marching platoon" or fourth division, for an additional eight to twelve weeks of more drill intensive training. Only after "drilling-out" of fourth division is a member allowed to submit a request for placement into either 1st division (bearers and firing squad) or 2nd division (drill team and colors). Tour of duty is normally for 2 years. |
