Continuing with rules sharing the same scale layout as the N1733. We've already seen the 1732 MICROMATIC and the 1734 MICROGLIDE. On to the rest! |
B-1734 |
This rule is one of several custom made rules from Relay/Ricoh for Dietzgen. Again, the same scale layout as the N1733, but labelled as a "B" for BAMBOO construction. Also believed to have been marketed as a "MICROGLIDE" type, due to the smoothness of bamboo operation. Used the Relay/Ricoh 157 body. Not very common. 1970-1972 production. (Best guess.) |
G-1734 |
If "B" is for bamboo, then "G" must be for GEROPLAST, the material used by FABER-CASTELL. And that's exactly what they were, a totally custom made rule, on the 2/83 body,( with anti-skid bumpers) but with exactly the same scale layout as the N1733. Also sold as a MICROGLIDE type, due to the smoothness of the plastic material's operation. Not common either. Manual copyright 1960, date coded 5/70 (Faber-Castell style), and printed in Germany. My G-1734 is coded 5/71. |
1738M |
The "M" suffix means METAL, like PICKETT rules. These were made by ECOBRA in Germany for Dietzgen. Again, the same layout, on a metal body with painted surfaces. These seem to flake pretty badly after all this time, and so even though they're not common, good ones are pretty rare. Manual copyright 1956. |
1736 |
This rule, so far unseen by me, is the only ALL PLASTIC U.S. made log-log duplex rule offered by Dietzgen. Same exact scale set as all the above rules, but made very much like a K+E 4181-3! Apparently, from the description in the 1955 catalog, these had all black markings. Rule marked: "MULTILOG MULTIPLEX STYLE-P". |

21 SCALES 5 LOG-LOG SCALES |
Very much In K+E fashion, this is a "vector" version which is a modification of a normal rule. These are basicaly a contemporary 1732 without DI and K and with the three hyperbolic scales added. Manuals seen for these copyright 1948. |

25 SCALES 6 LOG-LOG SCALES |
This later hyperbolic rule merely takes the N1732 scale layout and re-arranges it, ADDING the 3 hyperbolic scales without losing any from the original set. Manual for these seen with copyright date of 1959. NOTE: the RELAY/RICOH manufactured B-1725 is the same scale layout as this N1725, but on the same body as the B-1734, which is the Relay/Ricoh 157 body. Micromatic adj. feature on some/all?? |

22 SCALES 6 LOG-LOG SCALES |
This somewhat odd rule is another custom made example from Ricoh. It is of course then bamboo. The packaging and the manuals for this rule bore the name "SIGMA". Uses a unique scale arrangement for Dietzgen, appearing on no other rule, NOR on any currently known R/R type, though it is similar to the rare Hemmi 254W. They were made on the 153/150/154 body. Quite a few have sold recently MIB, one to me! The manual for these is the std. late R/R manual, with a new Dietzgen cover. My rule is date coded 1972. |

This rule is very much a FABER-CASTELL 2/83, only with different colors used for the accent stripes. Thus, its scale layout is also unique to Dietzgen. Believed to also have been made late in the slide rule era, probably early seventies like the G-1734 was. A neat way to collect a desirable Faber AND Dietzgen at the same time! |
Below, two "vector" type rules, then on to other log-log types. |
