Now, night comes to little Olmsted Falls. But, the parade of trains delayed by the slow moving ballast train doesn't slacken a bit. With the interlocking signal near the division milepost glowing in the background, another mixed freight accelerates out of the curve leaving Berea. From here, it's several miles of pretty straight, relatively flat track to Elyria. High speeds are common on this stretch, making for impressive viewing. |

The same train seen above now roars past, chasing the sun west to Elyria and beyond. Since these photos were taken, train frequency on this line has actually increased, prompting many communities to begin planning over/under passes for their main roads, to reduce road congestion and to avoid having emergency crews being blocked by trains. While perhaps necessary for safety, this will be a shame, as many good train watching spots will be altered so as to be unusable for photography. |
