We continue with listing various R/R types, in no special order. Read on! |
157 |
10" |
This is the "standard" Relay/Ricoh vector/ electronics type. Data subject to change. 26 scales, 5 log-log scales, plus the unique LL1' scale. |
Sh1,Sh2,DF,A[ B,CF,Th,CI,C (LL1') ]D,LL3,LL2,Db Tr1,Tr2,P'[ P,Q,St,Sr,S,C ]LL03,LL02,LL01 |
KNOWN RE-BRANDED TYPES: LAFAYETTE: F-686, 99-7102, 99-71029. S.I.C.: 1570. ALVIN: 1157. MICRONTA: 1157. COMPASS: 1325 |
Notes: these rules are not very common in any brand. Known date codes are 1961 and 1962 so far, those for Lafayette F-686's. Note wide selection of scales, some other makers merely include "Sh" and "Th" scales. The Lafayette types are the most common in the U.S. EARLY rules have a different scale set, as seen in the 1959 catalog page. Above is the later scale set. Some above rules may have been one or the other scale set, or available in both. Date of scale set change unclear. |

B-1725 |
10" |
This is another custom made rule for EUGENE DIETZGEN Co. 25 scales, 6 log-log scales. |
Th,Sh2,Sh1,A[ B,T,T,ST,S ]D,DI,K LL01,LL02,LL03,DF[ CF,CIF,L,CI,C ]D,LL3,LL2,LL1 |
Notes: This rule uses the same scale layout as the Dietzgen N-1725. Again a total custom job for Dietzgen, unlike any Relay/Ricoh type. Uses the same body as the B-1734, which is the familiar 157 body. B-1725's are also rather uncommon. The only date code I have is from the rule in my collection, which decodes as 1972, interestingly the same date code as my PICKETT B-1. |

Thats pretty much it for the big 10" duplex log-log types! Now we'll get into the other types and sizes. |

551 |
5" |
This is Relay/Ricoh's big pocket log-log rule, essentially a pocket 151!! 24 or 25 scales ( see below) 8 log-log scales. |
LLO-,L,K,A[ B,S,T,C]D,DI,P,LL0+ LL1-,LL2-,LL3-,DF[ CF,CIF,CI,C ]D,LL3,LL2,LL1 |
KNOWN RE-BRANDED TYPES: LAFAYETTE: F-681, 99-7099, 99-70997. SANS + STREIFFE: 313. COMPASS: 1321. S.I.C.: 5510. STAEDTLER-MARS: 945-24. ALVIN: 1155. MICRONTA: 551 OMEGA: (KNOWN TO EXIST) |
Notes: The S.I.C. version of this rule has been seen with an "ST" scale added between "S" and "T". This is the 25 scale variant mentioned above, which makes it exactly the same scales as a 151. It is unclear if any other brands have this scale. My Staedtler-Mars does not. These pocket rules, like their big brothers the 151's can differ in details by brand. All are quite comparable to Hemmi 149A's and Post 1461's in power. Lafayette types are the most common, which are sometimes labelled "Decima-dyne"! Date codes as early as 1960 known to exist. An awesome rule, Relay/Ricoh's most powerful pocket type. |

Another custom job for EUGENE DIETZGEN Co. 22 scales, 6 log-log scales |
K,A[ B,S,T1,T2,C ]D,DI,L LL01,LL02,LL03,DF[ CF,CIF,CI,C ]D,LL3,LL2,LL1 |
Notes: the last of the custom jobs for Dietzgen, this rule is marked "SIGMA". It follows neither an established Relay/Ricoh scale set nor a Dietzgen set, BUT it is similar to the rare HEMMI 254W. It is also similar to the newly discovered RICOH 1051, but with changed L/L scales. On the 150/153 body. Uncommon, but several MIB sets have sold recently. Known date: 1972. |

(DARMSTADT) |
10" |
Standard Darmstadt system rule. 13 scales, 3 log-log scales (on back of reversible slide). |
S,T,A[ B,K,CI,C ]D,P [ LL1,LL2,LL3,L ] |
Notes: this type known only to me from its appearance in a RICOH instruction manual. That manual came with a 1964 coded rule. Actual model number not known, no re-branded types ever seen. Presumably very uncommon in the U.S., as Darmstadt types were not very popular here. NOT the same scales as an earlier Darmstadt type known to exist, which was model 120. |

107 |
10" |
Darmstadt style rule with electrical scales added. 14 scales, 3 log-log scales. |
E,V,A[ B,K,CI,C ]D,S,T [ LL3,LL2,LL1,L ] |
Notes: another type not in my possession but known from same manual as above darmstadt type. "E" is an efficiency scale for dynamos and motors, giving answers in the metric system, and "V" is a voltage drop scale for calculating " d.c. voltage drop in a 2 wire system circuit." .Referred to in manual as "ELECTRO" type. For sure sold by OLSON. |
