Coach Scott Simmons - Coach Simmons brings a wealth of knowledge to the position of Director of the United States Sports Academy's Distance Running Program.  His expereince ranges from Olympic and World Championship levels to the collegiate ranks.

     Coach Simmons recently served as the Head US
Men's Coach for the 1997 World Half Marathon Championships.  He also served as an Information Specialist at the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games in Atlanta.

     Simmons has earned a Master's of Sport Coaching degree from the United States Sports Academy, as well as a Bachelor's of Arts degree in Psychology and English from the University of South Alabama.  He is certified by United States Track & Field as a Level I and Level II Coach in Endurance.

     Coach Simmons also coached cross country and track collegiatley for six years at the University of Mobile where he directed the efforts of over 30 All-Americans including National Champions at distance events.  While at UM, his cross country squads won 11 of 12 Conference Championships. 

     Coach Simmons approaches distance training from a well researched scientific background bolstered from personal base of experience as a successful coach.  He has studied the programs of the world-beating Kenyans, the Irish middle-distance powers, as well as the US's most successful coaches,  and has formed a philosphy of training that emphasizes developing the strengths and abilties of American runners.  At the root of his philosophy is a career long developmental plan that takes into account individual differences and focuses the athlete on success at championship events.

     He is currently coaching several post-collegians in Brevard, North Carolina and is noted for his USATF Post Collegiate Distance Runner's Survival Guide, now on the web at www.oocities.org/pcdrsg.html
