The Dawn Of A New Day on New Ship
By: Curtis B. Love
The twin suns rise over the Federation dry dock at Forsyth III and
their rays gentely caress the proud ships of Starfleet. There are four
ships here: two Defiant class cruisers, one Galaxy Class starship and
one Excalibur class ship. The Albany, Wolf and Surak are in various
states of construction and the Excalibur Class Cerberus has completed
refit operations and has been awaiting crew.
But today is the Cerberus' day. Today, for the first time in its
history, the Cerberus leaves space dock, taking with it a full crew of
two hundred and seven people, including families.
The Cerberus is unique amongst Starfleets ships. She
will be the first ship to in Starfleets history to have Marines
integrated into its crew, with three hundred and nine of them working
side by side with Starfleet personel. Marines will be serving with
their Starfleet brethren in the Medical and Security departments and,
in a revolutionary change of protocul, a Marine will serve as the
Captain. After the Dominion war, with both Starfleet and the Marines
manpower at record lows, the President has authorized this experiment
in an attempt to temporarly supplement man power as well as provide the
Marines with an oppourtunity to be trained in shipboard operations and
tactics.
What lies in the Cerberus' immedant future? Well, in a few short
hours, the ship will be enroute to Zoltar IV on a medical assistance
mission. The nature of the medical problem has not been released, but
the Federation Times will be covering the mission.
There is something in there air, though. Big things seem to be brewing
here, and only time will tell what they are.
The USS Cerberus is an interactive fiction Star Trek play by email game set in the year 2378, two years after the end of the Dominion War. We are a game with about a fifty-fifty mix of character development and action, and with the Cerberus’ crew having been set up for crimes they did not commit, we see a good deal of action. While we don’t see our Star Fleet counter parts very often, we do a lot of exploring, and help out where ever we can. With only our wits, what we left home with and no back up, things can get hairy. Come and join us as we try to prove our innocence and still uphold the original charter that Starfleet gave us: “To seek out new life and new civilization…To boldly go where no man has gone before!”
