It is not known if this alternate site will last, but for now it must do.
There is no formatting to this new site - it's just Morton photos.
Like the young men who are pictured herein, not all are with us today. As it will eventually be with us all, it seems this website is going to cease to exist. (At least in this realm)
As it is in life, enjoy it while it lasts. And thanks for the visit.

If you've ever been alone and stopped in to a USO for a cup of coffee or a doughnut, or just to watch TV while waiting for your ship or flight, you remember their welcome smile wherever in the world you may have been. You just may feel you owe it to them to try to help in any small way now that it's all behind you.

Keep Moving Forward

This is't a picture of me, this is Anzalone, a kind hearted soul, good to everyone. I just thought his smile was a good way to begin this site.

If someone was to tell you they witnessed a Chinook doing a barrell roll between the decks of two ships running side-by-side in the middle of the ocean during a replentishment at sea, you may be tempted to say, "Impossible". FACT: After dropping off one load on the Morton's deck, the Boeing CH-47 (CH-46) Chinook quickly rose high into the air and proceeded to roll. Traveling forward to match the speed of the two ships, and laterally to cover the considerable distance between them, the aircraft completed its 360 roll coming down just above the deck of the replentishment ship. Without batting an eye, the pilot picked up his next load and brought it to our fantail. A sight, for those who saw it, that could never be forgotten. Believe it, or not.

I told this story to an Army Captain who'd flown his Air National Guard Huey in to display at a local airshow in Watsonville, CA. After listening to my story he replied, "It can't do that. It didn't happen." Sure glad he wasn't one of the pilots I flew with in Viet Nam. You never know what is possible until you try. And what you're willing to try depends on how much your life, or those of others, may depend on it. Especially true if someone is shooting at you.

After my time on the Morton and a short stent at the Swiftboat school in Coronado, weapons training at Pendelton and SER training on Whidbey Island, WA, I found myself in Chu Lai, Vietnam, about 70-80 miles south of Danang.
Go to Chu Lai.
