During his tenture on the USS Republic in 2365, he helped upgrade the computer systems on the Excelsior class ship, an upgrade that kept the ship from being decommisioned and resigned to a junk yard. Captain Duende was chosen to take over as head of operations of the Starfleet Rebuilding and Refitting Shipyards taskforce. (SRRS) He did a fine job, helping to complete over a dozen ships in under three years. After a review panel found him innocent in regards to the accidental destruction of the Odyssey-A, he resumed his post for the completion of another Galaxy class vessel, later renamed the Odyssey-B in memorial to both it's predessors. A promising career awaits him as he has been selected to command the USS Odyssey-B after the destruction of Republic during the Dominion War. Starfleet feels that Captain Duende can be best put to use commanding a starship, not sitting behind a desk. Anything else would be a waste of resources, as one legendary Captain might say. Starfleet Career Summary 2361: Assigned to U.S.S. Republic; decorated for rescue of ship's First Officer and CMO during conflict with the Cardassians six weeks later and promoted to lieutenant commander, transferring from operations to command division. 2363: Marries Ensign Lora Karel in the beginning of 2364, and son John Duende is born 12 motnhs later. 2367: Promoted to Commander after the battle of Wolf 359, takes over as Second Officer of USS Republic. 2371: Divorces Commander Lora Karel, who soon after leaves Starfleet and joins the Marquis. 2373: Promoted to First Officer aboard the USS Republic following the Death of the previous First officer during battle with Borg cube in the Sol System. 2375: Temporary field promotion to captain of USS Justice by Admiral Ross following the destruction of the Republic during the 2nd battle of the Chin'toka system. 2376: Temporary assignment to Starfleet Rebuilding and Refitting Shipyards (SRRS) Task Force on Mars. 2377: The USS Odyssey-A suffers a sudden core breech while still in spacedock. Commander Duende is relieved of duty until a panel finds his actions did not lead to the destruction of the ship. He returns to work within the month. 2379: Given command of the newly refitted USS Odyssey. Physical Description: Captain Duende stands 6'2, and weighs roughly 210 lbs. He has black hair, which is starting to grey at the sideburns and temples slighty. He has pierceing dark blue eyes, an oddity in his family line. Character Description: Shane Duende is a born and bred Starfleet officer. He is an agile thinker, and is well trained in the art of dipomacy, though he insists it was only because he was given a trial by fire. He has seen many battles over the last decade, and with each one he has grown more somber. Character History: Shane Duende has, since the age of eight, always known what he wanted to do. Since joining Starfleet, he has served with distinction and honor. In 2363 he married ensign Lora Karel on board the USS Republic, and a year later they brought their first child into the world together. They we're both regarded as two of Starfleets finest officers, and they quickly rose through the ranks together. However, beginning in early 2370 their relationship began to fall apart, and the marriage ended. Commander Karel-Duende soon left Starfleet, and moved back to her homeplanet, only to disappear with their son and reappear 3 months later as a member of the Marquis. In 2373 the Dominion backed Cardassians wiped out 6 Marquis bases in the Badlands, and neighter Lora or John have been sighted since. Some reports believe they may have been on a seventh base on Prussura IV. The was no sign of life at the base however, nor any sign of violence. Starfleet has been unable to determine what happened to those people, and Shane does not like to talk about it. His younger brother Travis, a Starfleet Lt. Commander, was killed aboard the USS Nautilus during the taking of the Chin'toka System. After the destruction of the USS Republic, a vessel he had served on for 14 years, and the death of his former Captain he was given temporary command of a recommisoned USS Justice, an Excelsior class vessel for the duration of the rest of the Dominion War. His father, a Starfleet admiral of 60 years, was killed in the Breen assault on Starfleet HQ in San Francisco. After the war ended, the USS Justice was decommisioned once again, and Shane was transfered to the new Starfleet Rebuilding and Refitting Shipyards Task Force on Mars. After overseeing the project for 3 years he was given command of the Refitted USS Odyssey, the latest ship he had helped to refit. Shane speaks English, Gaelic, Klingon and rudimentary Vulcan. |
