Notarianni, Philip F. Faith, Hope, & Prosperity: The Tintic Mining District

Original copyright 1982. Centennial Edition 1992.

Tintic Historical Society, Eureka Utah.

This is THE book for information on the Tintic Mining District. The book contains many historic photos and a few historic maps. There is also a section of photographs showing the towns and mines in their contemporary (1980s) setting. It would be nice if a follow up book would document the recent developments and "going on's" in the district as well as contain more maps and blueprints/diagrams of the various mills and smelters.

Thompson, George A. Some Dreams Die: Utah's Ghost Towns and Lost Treasures

Original copyright 1982. Roaming the West, Salt Lake City 1991.

Usefull book but not as organized as Carr's. The book contains brief histories of the various towns plus interesting stories of lost treasure, gun fights, and legends. The book contains a useful appendix listing towns with changed names and counties that no longer exist or had their names changed.

Utah Historical Quarterly Summer, 1963, Volume 31, Number 3. "Century of Mining"

This issue of the UHQ contains serveral articles by serveral authors on various aspects of mining in Utah of the 1863 to 1963 period. Articles on Utah's coal, iron, and steel industries plus articles on Utah's nonmetallic, petroleum, and uranium industries.

Carr, Stephen L. The Historical Guide to Utah Ghost Towns

Original copyright 1972. Third Edition, Second Printing 1990.

Western Epics, Salt Lake City, Utah

The most comprehensive and usefull book on Utah Ghost Towns. However it needs to be overhauled and updated. The classification of ghost towns in the book needs adjustment for as each year goes by more and more evidence of ghost towns gradually disappear. Despite being outdated one should not hesitate to use it.

Carr, Stephen L Utah Ghost Rails

From the author who gave us The Historical Guide to Ghost Towns this work offers a different view of 'Ghostly' places in Utah from the view point of the railroads that served the state. This compliments Carr's Ghost Town Book.

Utah Atlas & Gazetter

If you want a handy set of maps for the entire state of Utah look no further. This book divides Utah into a series of rectangles with reference numbers (or grid numbers). Just look at the back cover, look for the section of the state you are interested in, and the gird number is the page where you will find the map. The scale used for the maps is 1:250,000 (1 inch equals 4 miles). Although not as detailed as USGS 7.5 series of maps this Atlas is much more convient. If you use USGS maps in conjuction with this Atlas getting lost shouldn't be much of a problem.

Here are some blue prints that I have come accross and scanned into either .GIF or .JPG format. They may take some time to load, but they are worth the wait. As far as I know they are not copyrighted. If you think they may be copyrighted please e-mail me and I will delete them off the site.
