What do crew members do? |
SYGW Crew Members work in our youth garden growing produce to sell at the farmers market. Youth do every step of growing including planting, weeding, harvesting, watering, cultivating, and even work the farmers market stand on Saturday selling the produce that we grow. Most afternoons we work in the garden (sometimes in the rain), but some afternoons we are inside doing lessons about soils, basic plant science, nutrition, where our food comes from, etc. We also work on our resumes, cover letters, and interview skills to help get jobs for the future. |
Why work for SYGW? |
After one season of working as a crew member, you can apply to become a lead gardener. By becoming a lead gardener you show extra responsibility, and you can help your peers learn how to garden.
Once you have worked an initial amount of hours, you will start to earn profit shares. This means that you will get a share in the profit made from selling the produce you grow. Profit shares are mailed to crew members at the end of the year, in December.
You can meet other youth, make friends and enjoy working and learning together.
Are YOU ready to turn things around and start doing something positive? Many youth like our program because it is a safe, positive and productive thing to do with their time. Commit to a job where you can make friends, learn new things;and find support from staff to plan for your future.
