HOW TO JOIN OUR CHOIR
If you enjoy singing and would like to join us, you will have to fit into one of four sections: Soprano, Alto, Tenor or Bass. We  are eager to recruit  new members, especially men for our Tenor and Bass section. Our current group has approximately 24 women and 11 men.

You do NOT need to read music or play an instrument, however if you do, it is a bonus. You also do not need to read, write, or understand the Gaelic language. We sing about 75% of our material in Gaelic and offer lots of guidance during practice with Maureen Lyon, our Gaelic Tutor. Don't worry, she is VERY patient.
Uniforms are worn at all formal concert performances.

Women wear a white blouse, B.C. Tartan skirt, and black shoes.

Men wear a white dress shirt, B.C. Tartan tie, black dress slacks, shoes and socks.

Members are responsible for purchasing a tie or material for a skirt. Both are available through the choir. You're on your own for the rest of the stuff!
    Choir Dues

Each member pays $50.00 twice yearly for choir dues. This money covers the expenses of running the choir, paying the salary of the choir music director, photo copied music, plus misc. things like coffee & tea during practices. It's a worthwhile investment when you realize you are keeping a fantastic language alive and having fun with other crazy Scots. Dues are collected in January and September.

Choir dues is one of 3 methods used to support the choir. We do some fundraising in the community at large and also receive grants from private and corporate sponsers and government agencies.

   Practice Times

We meet on Tuesday Evenings at 7:30-10:00 PM from January to June and again from September to December at the Scottish Cultural Center at 8886 Hudson Street (Marpole). The practice has a 20 minute refreshment break at half time. During competition years, we may schedule extra practices for each section on other nights.
There are classes available for those who wish to study Gaelic. Check with the Vancouver Scottish Cultural Center for more information. We provide gaelic tapes and sectional music tapes to assist our members.  You'll find your fellow choir mates eager to help you out.
