Time is passing us by, some grow up while the rest grow old, no! I am not saying that I am getting old, far from it I`m only 23 after all! Here are some pictures of me and Nicole during these past few months...
Christmas comes but once a year, or so the saying goes. And Christmas is a time of unity, friendship and merriment or is it hiding our differences behind the carpet only to return to back-stabbing once the Holiday Season is over? As to the merriment, most of it is a farce as there are only a limited dinner parties that one can go to and really enjoy, the rest are just another drag. Christmas takes on a different meaning with kids around the house, there are the decorations to be put up, the crib to be dusted and given a re-painting job, checking on the small figurines that adorn every crib "is St.Joseph still whole? No someone has dropped it last year, it has lost an arm; and the baby Jesus is missing!"; checking out the fairy lights, decking the Christmas tree; writing the cards and getting the family toddler to "sign" them (usually with a coloured finger-print). It is always like the first time, I think this is the first time that Nicole remembers that we had a Baby Jesus and a Christmas tree with fairy lights. The previous years she was far too young to remember. As usual we had the family Christmas Lunch held as a buffet at a rather nice hotel. No we do not do holiday dinners at home as it`s not worth the hassle, prefer to be treated as kings and not bother about overdoing the turkey. Besides noone likes turkey, we all end up helping ourselves to something else rather than turkey! Here`s what me and daughter do best at the said dinner...
The Major Event of this calendar year was Nicole`s First Day @ School. Remember YOUR first day? The panic attacks, the tension, butterflies in the stomach, getting all dressed up and ready by 8 am, and that`s only your mother!
Well, Nic`s was no different, she was ok I suppose much better than I was anyway...: "ok! so we`re going to some sort of playroom, did i get that right? Well, boss! Let`s get it over and done with!" It was me who was nervous as to how she was going to react to being left without mummy "Didn`t you just say that you were leaving? Then why are you still here?? Now be a good old girl mummy and just leave! Get off I said!!"; in a classroom full of kids "WHIPPIE!! Playmates!"; and with only one carer to 14 kiddies "Hehhe! The less, the better ;)" Honestly she liked it, and when the first day was over, she didn`t want to come home, I actually had to drag her there! Kids!!
Carneval!! It is that time of year when kids dress up as adults and adults behave like kids, or worse! Well, partying is the name of the game and everyone does it from cradle to nearing grave. Of course everything is done in fancy dress and masked so one doesn`t know who`s shooting her/him with that water pistol, or playing that prank. Morning and early evening parades are the dominion of the young, the very young. Late evening is when the adults come out in their fancy costumes, and I mean late. The parties don`t start before 11pm and rarely end before 5am! Of course there are some parents who leaving their kids with an elderly relative, collect their charges at the small hours of the morning only to rush off to the kids` parade.
The Monster.
In this pic Nicole is facing and , yepp, conquering her phobia. Monsters are her worst enemies, even though she tries her best to be "friends" with them, honest! She looks out for them under the bed, behind the doors, and underneath the carpets, but still they elude her... Not even one wants to make his presence felt!! But this carneval Nicole not only saw LOADS of The Monster but also had the honour to be lifted up by one, hugged, kissed and taken a photo! Hurray for The Monster! Long may The Monster live! Or is it not?
