Hi, my name's Ben Daswani. Throughout 2004 and 2005 I will be organizing four tournaments in Vancouver and together they form the Vancouver Seasonal Grand Prix.

Fall Open - November 6 and 7, 2004.
Winter Open - February 12 and 13, 2005.
Spring Open - May 28 and 29, 2005.
Summer Open - June 25 and 26, 2005. ← next event!

Event Information
Location: Vancouver Bridge Centre - 2776 E. Broadway @ Kaslo.
Registration: 9:30 to 10:00am on Saturday.
Rounds: Four.
Round Times: 10:00am and 3:00pm on Saturday; 10:00 and ASAP on Sunday.
Time Controls: 30 moves in 90 minutes, game in 60 minutes.
Format: Swiss pairings. Accelerated Swiss if necessary.
Entry Fee: $30. $20 for juniors, seniors and masters.
Prizes: All entry fees minus expenses (which includes 20% to go towards Grand Prix prize fund).
Byes: Maximum of two half-point byes (no byes in fourth round).

Grand Prix Standings

Grand Prix Regulations
From each of the four Vancouver Seasonal Events, 20% from each entry fee will be taken and put into the Vancouver Seasonal Grand Prix prize fund. After the events have taken place, prizes will be given out using the following prize fund:

First: 40% of prize fund.
Second: 20% of prize fund.
Top U2200: 10% of prize fund.
Top U2000: 10% of prize fund.
Top U1800: 10% of prize fund.
Top U1600: 10% of prize fund.

After three events, the GP prize fund is $170. The projected prizes are approximately:

First: $91.
Second: $45.
Top U2200: $23.
Top U2000: $23.
Top U1800: $23.
Top U1600: $23.

As well, our sponsor, Chess First! Enterprises, has kindly donated the following prizes:

First: A ChessBase playing engine: Fritz 7.
Second: A ChessBase training CD: School of Elementary Tactics.
Top Junior: A plastic chess set.

NB: In the case of a tie for a cash prize, the prize will be split among the tied players. In the case of a tie for a prize from Chess First! Enterprises, a tie-break formula will be used.

The following rules apply:

1. For the purpose of class prizes, an AVERAGE of a player's ratings prior to each event in which he plays will be used to determine under what class he falls.
2. Although a player can take up to two 0.5 point byes per tournament, only one of them can count towards his Grand Prix point total.
3. If a player is given a (1 point) forced bye during a tournament, it counts as a point towards his Grand Prix point total. However, no other byes in the same tournament will count.
