FIVE SUMMER IMAGES

1.
The summer rain comes
steady in a slow drizzle
saddening birds
stirring silence
urging memory.

In the deep dark pools
of dream
deep dark eyes recall
coming and going
in spring.

2.
The cloud caresses
summer's hurrying moon:
my hand upon
her silvery breast
once in spring.

3.
Travelling eastward
from the north country
my eye follows rooks
pursued by night
flying into the sun
Will summer's sadness
never end?

4.
You who swing the earth in
a moment of thousand eyes,
understand the ways of a nomad:

summer comes and goes
without explanation,
the sand re-forms tirelessly,
logic is weariness.

5.
The rose perceives
in deserts of dream
endlessness:
summer is a song lost.
