CIVTEFL-L

An electronic discussion list on Culture in the English as a Foreign Language Classroom-- CIVTEFL.

The aims of the list are twofold:

The list is designed for teachers who have some background in English Language Teaching (ELT).
The discussion topics will be broadly conceived to include the cultures of all English speaking nations and communities.
We welcome any topic related to Culture.
Below we jotted down a list of possible topics for discussion:
  1. The cultural specificity of language practices (the linguistic specificity of cultural practices).
  2. The use of Cultural studies methodology in the EFL classroom to interest students and teach both language and culture simultaneously.
  3. The use of civics education materials to learn the language and culture of a community or nation.
  4. Theoretical issues involving language acquisition and the presentation of a foreign culture.
  5. Practical pedagogical issues involving teaching EFL and culture.
  6. Exchanging research, collaboration.
  7. Sharing lesson plans and teaching ideas.

The present list owner and webmaster is Vera Queiroz (vcqm@uol.com.br), an EFL teacher from Sao Paulo, Brazil.

SPECIAL THANKS to Dr. Andrew Lakritz, the former list owner.
