BIKING AGAINST THE WIND AND DIVING WITH THE SHARKS
Düsseldorf, the 23.12.01
Dear Raul & Magaly
What should I write you after ten days on the streets of Cuba with a bike.
Between your house in Vedado /Habana and the town of Guantanamo, I made nearly
1200km. Most of the time I had to go against the wind so I think next time it's
easyer to begin in the south with the wind in the back.
Having the possibility to see the beauty nature of Cuba is more than every
Christmas present.
Of course sometimes it was hard when the wind was so strong, killing the power in the legs, when the sun was giving everything and no cloud and tree could give you shadow, when the frequency of the passing old vans was to high so you have to go in a dark cloud.
But the lasting impression is still wonderful, wonderful, wonderful.! ! !

One highligth after meeting "old" friends and cuban people in private houses, was the shark dive in Playa
St. Lucia / Camagüey.
We went with the divemasters (you 'll find the diving-school between Club Playa St.Lucia and 4 Vientos Hotel) to area of Playa Bonita.
The first divemaster disappeared in the sea and we were following him in a distance of 5 minutes.
An old ship was standing diagonal in the sand in about 25 meters.
We were waiting and watching the divemaster by preparing fish with a knife.
First swarms of medium size fishes were coming to take the prepareed fish away.
It took about ten minutes before the first grey shark arrived.
Altogether I saw three of them coming nearer carefuly.
The fish swarms disappeared and the sharks were coming closer to the divemaster, we were watching them in a distance of 6 to 8 meters without moving, with the knees in the sand.
At last the sharks were coming to the divemaster to eat the prepared fish out of his hands like a dog coming or asking for meat.
The sharks had between 2 and 3 meters but nobody was afraid.
After 45 minutes we left the water with an other thinking about this kind of animal.
Thanks for all your help and service.
I' ll mail you early enough when I'll come back to Habana maybe for the marabana next year.
Hasta luego
Michael
