The healing properties of the Elguea baths were discovered in the year of 1860 by a slave of Mr. Francisco Elguea's Sugar Mills, when being treated of a cutaneous affection that maintained it separated from their group.
Later on was build the first bathhouse of thermal waters and in 1917 the first hotel was built for people's use with skin affections, rheumatism, arthritis and breathing problems.
From some years ago it worked only for the treatment to the Cubans, and later on it was enlarged and remodeled being included the treatments of mud therapy with access to the International Tourism.

Today these sulfur springs and the associated mud are used by medical professionals to treat skin irritations, as well as arthritis, rheumatism, respiratory problems and mud therapy
The waters here reach temperatures of 50 Centigrade and are rich in bromide, chloride, radon, sodium, and sulfur.
Baņos Elguea, 136 km northwest of Santa Clara near the border with Matanzas Province, is a famous health resort.

These thermal baths, about three kilometers north west of CORRALILLO, are supplied by hyperthermal (up to 50 Centigrades) and hypermineralized springs containing bromine, sodium, radium, and sulfur.
The Hotel Elguea has 139 rooms and cost $ 29/38 USD (single/double) low season and $ 34/45 USD high season.
Facilities include a swimming pool, tennis court, gymnasium, sundeck and many others sporting facilities.
Mud therapy, massages, heliotherapy,electrotherapy and physical exercise programs are offered. The Hotel treatment even includes a visit to Cayo Blanquizal, whose highly sulfurous sands are supposedly very effective for natural beauty masks.
Numerous spa treatments are available at the nearby thermal pools. Fishing trips can be arranged.
The climate in Cuba is sub-tropical, with a mean annual temperature of 77F (25C). Humidity averages about 77% between November and May, rising up to 82% outside these periods.
