    Canada, Karen Lynn: Died: April 22, 1994 when the transport helicopter crashed into a mountain during bad weather en route from Winston-Salem, North Carolina/USA. Lynn was a certified critical care and emergency nurse. She also taught at a technical college and it was her students that nominated her to be honored at the 1995 National EMS Memorial Service.    Carnahan, Shayne D.: Died January 11,1998 when an EMS helicopter crashed after removing an injured skier in Utah/USA. Shayne, 32, was fondly described by a retired head nurse as "a good person-caring, considerate, reliable" while friends noted he lived doing what he loved.     Christ, Jeanette: Died April 28, 1982 as flight nurse when the transport helicopter crashed shortly after evacuating the victim of an auto accident to Allentown, Pennsylvania/USA.     Coburn, Ana: Died Sept. 7, 2002 when a flight helicopter from Pahrump, Nevada/USA crashed in California just west of the Nevada border. The 3 person crew was on its way to a car accident.     Conti, Kelly: Died Jan. 2002 during a med helicopter takeoff from its hospital base in Cleveland, Ohio/USA. Kelly was a flight and critical care nurse since 1985. She was also a pediatric trauma educator and provided continuing education to fire, EMS, and ER personnel. Capt. John Blauch, of the Chardon Fire Dept who taught with Kelly, noted that "She held instructor ratings in every known pediatric emergency course.The world, and especially our children, have lost a guardian angel in Kelly Conti. Her drive to prevent traumatic and accidental childhood injury was a gift, which she gave freely to all those she encountered. I am a better nurse and paramedic after having had the opportunity to be touched by her heart." Kelly, 38, lived in Wickliffe where she is survived by her husband and 2 children. [Ent.     De La Fuente, Carlos (Sr.): Died June 5, 1998 in an air ambulance crash in Texas/USA while en route to an accident. Carlos, 34, had been a flight nurse for eight years and as well as working in an emergency department. Friends stated that he was not only a devoted man to his jobs, but also to his family.     Does, J. & J.: Died March 15 & 24,2003. Two nurses (gender not reported) working in a hospital in Hanoi, Vietnam, were reported to have died during an international outbreak of what was being called Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). An infected American businessman had been treated at the hospital. A physician and another patient also died as well as several others in other countries.     Dorsey, DeAnna Lynn: Died October 6,2001 when a man with a reported history of paranoid schizophrenia, shot her during her daytime shift at Craig General Hospital in Vinita, Oklahoma/USA. The assailant was not a patient at the hospital. His action raised concerns about the lack of care of the mentally ill as a result of the downsizing of the patient population of a State hospital for the mentally ill. The assailant was later killed by police. DeAnna, 45, had worked at the hospital since 1996. She was described as a "wonderful, caring nurse, wife and mother who was very active in her church" and planning for her daughter's wedding next March.
