Felix Graf von Bothmer
Felix von Bothmer was born in Munich, 10 December 1852, the  son of an army officer. Commissioned during the Franco-Prussian War. He attended the Bavarian War Academy and rose to General der Infanterie in 1910. He had broken his leg in mid-1914 so even though he was activated for duty in August, he did not receive a field command until December 1914, and then it was the 6. Bavarian Reserve Infantry Division.  Corps command came a few weeks later with the command of the II. Bavarian Reserve Corps, which was renamed Bothmer Corps in May 1915 and the big offensive against the Russians.  Bothmer took leadership of the Südarmee on 7 July 1915 and retained command until 1918. 

For distinguished service on the Dniester and Gnila-Lipa sectors through the summer, Bothmer was awarded the prestigious Pour le Merit, and received the Oak Leaves in July 1917 when he skilfully thwarted the last Russian offensive, led by General Brussilov.  He was given command of the XIX. Army in Lotharingia until the end of World War I.  Bothmer was promoted to colonel general in April 1918.  Bothmer’s last job in the army was to be an advisor for the Bavarian Ministry for Military Affairs from November to December 1918, mostly overseeing the demobilization of the soon-to-be-disbanded Bavarian Army. 

Bothmer retired from the army in December 1918 and died in Munich 18 March 1937.
