Rudolf Kralicek | ||||||||||||||||
FML Rudolf Kralicek began the war by leading the 28. Infantry Division. He did this until November and then turned it over to GM Alfred Edler von Hinke. Kralicek was granted command of the IX. Corps in November 1914, replacing the ephemeral leadership of FZM Johann von Friedel. Kralicek remained in this capacity for a decent two years' service, until he was succeeded in October 1916 by FML Ernst Edler von Kletter. FML Kralicek found a commanding position in the XVI. Corps in March 1917, and he kept this until September 1918. He was stricken with illness during that month, however, and FML Otto Ritter von Berndt was appointed interrim commander until Kralicek could return. He did so in October, and remained at his post until wars' end. GWS, 3/02 |

Böltz XXXII. inf. div., Genmj. von Willerding At the beginning of General Brussilov's Offensive in early June 1916, Kralicek's sector was located north of Tarnopol, which was occupied by the Russian VI. Corps. North of his position was the IV. Corps of Schmidt von Georgenegg, while General Peter Hofmann's Corps lie to the south. There was little movement along this sector during the initial phase of Brussilov's Offensive. Kralicek maintained a decent stand on the River Sereth throughout the tumultuous month of June. Army launched an offensive aimed at Lemberg, and Kralicek's force came under great fire but the IX. Corps maintained itself admirably. Hofmann's Corps to the south backed away from Tarnopol in late July, and General Bothmer ordered Kralicek to seek a new line in front of Brzezany. Kralicek defended the town throughout August and September as Shcherbachev attempted to extend a noose around Bothmer in conjunction with Sakharov's Russian XI. Army.
