LeBlanc and Boulay on the Podium in Quebec.
Opus riders Geneviève LeBlanc and Magalie Boulay proved they are amoung the best riders in Eastern Canada with 2 podium finishes in the Quebec season opener.
The road race was held in Bellefeuille, near Montreal on Saturday. The race report (supplied by the athletes) is as follows:
"The weather was really bad. Zero degree Celcius with snow!!! (The afternoon races were cancelled!) Junior girls had the chance to race early, before the snow falls started. Geneviève LeBlanc and Magalie Boulay, from OPUS Women team were on the start line. Julie Bélanger, the national road champion, from NB was also there. It was a 5 k road race circuit. Because of the weather, the race was shorter; only 7 laps. Geneviève LeBlanc won, finishing 1 min 30 seconds in front of Magalie Boulay (second) and Julie Bélanger(third). This was a very good race for OPUS's riders!
Geneviève and Magalie are both attempting to qualify to represent Canada at the World Junior Road Cycling Championships. Their victory over last year's national champion proves they have retained their form and condition from the 2001 season.
Opus and its sponsors are proud to support Canada's most talented young riders. Best of luck to both athletes as they prepare to defend their position on Canada's National Junior Road Team.
