Way back in the day...way way back in 1992 the band some of us know as Eugenius once called themselves, Captain America.  Here is an interview from that far away place I call 1992.

1992 interview

Captain America, as they were when we interviewed them are now known as Eugenius due to a little run in with Marvel Comics. They played at the Old Trout in Windsor. The whole band were present. Eugene Kelly did most of the talking. Where a new line starts someone else has said something.

31 Flavours: How long have you been together?
Captain America: We've only been together for about 2 months really because there's been lots of other people in the band before but they all left or got asked to leave.
31 Flavours: How do you fit in with all the bands that you get compared to?
Captain America: It's because we all know each other. We all drink in the same pubs, we know each other so well. We just help each other out. But membership is now closed!
31 Flavours: Did you enjoy touring with Nirvana?
Captain America: Yeah, but it would have been better with the line up that we have now.
31 Flavours: So you think you've got the right sound now then?
Captain America: Yeah, We finally sound like Captain America! It's gonna develop over time but the sound now we are pleased with.
31 Flavours: Other than Eugene was anyone else involved with the Vaselines?
Captain America: We used to be fans!
31 Flavours: What does the future hold for Captain America?
Captain America: We've recorded the album. That should be out June - July.We are doing Finsbury park and then onto America.
31 Flavours: Can you get the EP's out in America?
Captain America: Only on import.
31 Flavours: How much of your popularity comes from Nirvana?
Captain America: Quite a lot really. It just helped to spread the name Captain America a lot quicker. But we've taken our Nirvana stabilizers off now!
31 Flavours: Do you think you've got more serious now, than when you were in the Vaselines?
Captain America: Yeah, the Vaselines was just one of those bands where everybody in them was just in it for a laugh. It wasn't like we thought we could make a career out of it.
31 Flavours: So what label are you signing to in America then?
Captain America: Atlantic.
31 Flavours: How do you feel about being on a major label in the States and an indie one in the UK?
Captain America: It's very good. You need a major label in America to make any kind of impact at all you do need a major deal. A lot of people think that you lose your credibility and won't talk to you. But fuck them. I don't a shit. It's a Bit of a retarded attitude really. We were up to do the new music seminar in New York and the guy who's organising it doesn't want us there because we are on Atlantic, a major label, so we're playing somewhere else with two quite well known bands and we won't be putting him on the guest list.

31 Flavours: Is there anywhere else that you are looking forward to going?
Captain America: Amsterdam!
At this point a quick argument ensues about not using any drug references. Then they continue.
To see the tulip fields of course!!!?!!
We want to see America, but we've already been to Japan.

31 Flavours: Do you like the term 'Indie' band
Captain America: No, not really. It's a horrible name that covers so many different kinds of music. I prefer independent label or independent music. Indie of makes it sound civilised in some way. I mean Kylie is indie, that's a horrible thought.
For us I prefer 'pop' band. We are a pop band. I write pop songs. Some pop is really good. At the moment Right Said Fred are the only real pop band around, chart wise that is.

31 Flavours: Do you get recognised on the streets yet?
Captain America: No, but as soon as we appear on crimewatch.
I was in the toilet and a guy comes up to me and says 'are you going next door?' I said yeah and he asked me if I wanted a ticket. I goes, I'm the fucking guitarist. He went 'Oooh! How embaressing'. But we haven't been on Rapido or The Word yet!

31 Flavours: Will we see any more cover versions?
Captain America: Daisy Chainsaw - We'll try and make one of their songs good!
This is met with Ooohs and Ahhs from the rest of the and followed by laughter all around.

31 Flavours: Are you steering away from an image?
Captain America: I beg your pardon. I thought we look fabulous together!
We don't really look like this. We've got stylists. We pay them to make us look like this. My hair's a wig!
