Welcome to Spectacular Optical, a publication of the Investigative Bureau of Nosy Bohemians. The IBNB is a group of covert operatives who work as freelance observers and researchers, engaged in an espionage of everyday life, concerned with the details of everyday life -- the place where the devil is. The name Spectacular Optical is, of course, taken from the sinister corporate conglomerate in David Cronenberg's film Videodrome, whose motto was: "Keeping an eye on the world." Our philosophy is a little different, since we're about as far from a corporate conglomerate as one can get in the year 2003. It's summed up in the Huxley quote that comprises our Links section, and in something I said in passing to my husband while we were discussing whether or not we'd accept life in the Matrix: "I'm pretty much committed to reality, even though it sucks."
