This is Trinidad, it is a twin island state with a blend of many different races, where English is our mother tongue but one can still find traces of the French, Spanish, Carib and English influences about us. Lots of people abroad do not know about Trinidad and have no idea where it is. Is it part of Jamaica? The answer is NO. Trinidad is one of the most southerly country of the Caribbean and no one knows if it is because of our location (close to the South American continent) that has made us safe from the hurricanes that strike every year during our rainy season. We have only two seasons, the dry (sunny) season from January to June and the rainy season from June to December. We are surrounded by lots of mountains, again that could be one of the reasons we have not been seriously hit by a hurricane. We do get lots of rain whenever there is a serious threat of a hurricane in the area. I live in the Diego Martin valley, which is the beginning of the Chaguaramas area. Besides our Carnival, we have Oil, steel and hydrocarbon industries. We are also famous for the pitch-lake. This is a large lake (not water) but pitch, which is used around the world in laying out roads. TobagoTobago is quite different to Trinidad, the pace is not as fast as in Trinidad and some of the best beaches could be found in Tobago. The Tobagians (descendants of African) own most of the land there and although there is a mix of people it is not as wide spread as Trinidad. There are not many manufacturing industries or any heavy industry in Tobago. They rely heavily on tourism for their livelihood. The ideal place for a relaxing holiday. Famous for the bucco reef (one of the wonders of the world).
