Venarius Paintball
FAQ
What does Venarius mean?
Venarius is latin for hunter, or to hunt.  Although not an exact translation according to some latin dictionaries, it does use the base word for hunter, or to hunt.  I always assumed that it was a conjagation of some sort.
What is your real name?
My real name is Mike Kraft.
How long have you been playing paintball?
I have been playing paintball for around 4 years now.  I don't remember the exact date, but i do remeber the events.  It was for a friends birthday party.  His parents asked him what he wanted to do, and he said paintball.  So, long story short, we all went, and loved it!  We played with rental pro-lights from tippman.  We didn't know much, but we still had a great time!  The atmosphere was wonderful.  The "experianced" players were helpful, the fields were beautiful, and no one treated us like shit just because we were newbies.  All in all, it was a wonderfull, adrenaline full experiance that has kept me playing for 4 years!
What kind of equipment do you reccomend for the begginer?
What kind of equipment do you use?
This is a difficult one to answer, as everyone has a different perspective.  Personally, I would say that if you are just starting off, go with a pump (a PGP for example).  The reason being that you (not being able to fire fast) will learn the value of movement and accuracy.  Trust me, there is no better feeling than taking out somebody with a pump.  But, if you are playing with mostly semi-autos, then a pump can be a real dis-advantage, especially for the un-experianced player.  If this is your case, I would say, go with a "low end" semi-auto.  I say "low end" because they are relatively cheap, but they are not low end.  They can compete easily with "high end" guns...after all...its the player...not the gun that really matters!

One more thing...do not, repeat DO NOT play once or twice and run out and get the most expensive gun ever.  There is no better fodder on the field than some newbie with a $1200 gun.  You lose the respect of many players right off the bat.  Start with a cheaper marker, and work your way up if need be.

If you have a set of camoflauge, wear it.  People don't wear it because it looks cool, they wear it because it works.  If you don't just wear some old cloths that you don't mind getting dirty.  The Darker the cloths, the better!

Also, many people will say "wear a pair of sneakers, or cleats".  This is what I did for the first year or two playing, but after spraining my ankle around 3 or 4 times, I decided it was  time for something more.  If you have similar problems, invest some cash into a pair of Military boots.  I love mine.  You will have no fear of getting them dirty, walking through water and mud, and best of all, they have great ankle support!  I have never even came close to spraining my ankle with these.  My pair of boots is one made for a para-trooper/jumper, so they even have added support for the ankles.  If you plan on playing rec-ball a lot...i strongly reccomend investing in a pair for yourself!
See the "My Equipment" page for details on my equitment.
What field do you usually play at?
I typically play at Adventure Games in Wear, NH.  It is a nice place, common down sometime!  I also play outlaw with some friends over the summer and fall.  We usually play between 2 and 6 times a month, depending on when we can all get together.
