What We Really Need Is.... |
|
|
|
What we really need around the Hampton-Poquoson area is a bigger, better race track. Open it to all dragster and racing fanatics alike. This will help cut a lot of the illegal street racing. Langley is open but is not exactly big enough nor in tip-top shape for holding a large number of people. A place of their own for racing will also help reduce some accidents on the roads. |

I know, being a race fan myself, the temptations for a lead foot do tend to pass through our young minds. A lot of kids today love working on their cars to help them produce more power and a faster time on the streets. Yes parents would disagree on this idea, but you have to see the big picture. They should consider the thought of a carefully secured place to race in a good conditioned track, or run the risk of them illegally running on the streets. A place like this they would be less likely to get into a dangerous accident or war with a crew that way. |

Langley does indeed have their days where they let kids come to the track and race. It's been highly effective so far as in getting kids off the streets. They also allow the chance for crew teams to battle it out for who is better than whom and even with a cash prize. They let them do anything from burnouts to one-on-one drag races. Langley even offers them the chance to get a great local sponsor for you or your team. They even post up on their website, the records of your times and points you have earned ("Wacky Wednesdays"). |

Not only does it have to be for cars but go-carts as well on different nights. Building a small dirt track just for them gives those without licenses the opportunity to enjoy the speed and themselves. It might also be a good way to get a family night started. A race track gives a chance also to those that dream of Formula one, NASCAR or Indy to see what it's like behind the wheel for a long length of time. Practicing under other people that have had experience can ensure more safety. |

Another part of the track that could be added is a place similar to Jillian's. Games for PS2, PS3 and Xbox 360 are also an attraction. Many teens spend hours playing video games, so why not make it fun and interactive. Maybe that addition place in paint ball arena or laser tag. Card game tables could even help bring in more kids off the streets. Let the games range from go fish to Texas hold'em. |

Even though the cost might be a little costly, a lot of the parents are willing to do some action to getting their children off the streets at least and giving them a safer environment to do the things they enjoy. I did a research similar to this in high school and asked how parents would feel toward saving money for an area just designed for the racers. Most of them agreed to paying over fifty dollars a month each. This just goes to show that they do care about their kid's safety, yet they want them to have fun as well. There have been a lot of great places to build a place like this. One particular place I have in mind is a nice slightly wooded area across from the Home Depot in Hampton Roads. It's big enough to build a massive building and along side a small dirt track and about a half-mile race track with stands. |

Giving them a place to themselves also means freedom. Being able to know that their child is in a great place to meet new people soothes parent's worrying. It could also be a great way to build up the community and letting them mingle with other people outside their area their used to. Everyone from high school, college and even middle school would have activities just for them. Crime such as vandalism also might seize because their not bored out of their mind and getting into a heap of trouble. |

A mega-plex of activities would suit the need for kids, big or small to be a typical kid again. Teens today are always searching for the perfect place to just hang out. So why not build a place just for them to create a better community and put a stop to violence. |
