WELCOME TO DR. BILL'S ENVIRONMENTAL TOXICOLOGY

ECOLOGY is a science that deals with how organisms interact with their environment.

An
ECOSYSTEM includes the living organisms (biotic) in an area, along with the nonliving  factors (abiotic) with which they interact.

TOXICOLOGY
is a science that deals with the study of the toxic effects of chemicals.

PHARMACOLOGY
is  a science that deals with the effects of chemicals - both positive and negative.

TOXICOLOGY AND PHARMACOLOGY
use the same basic terminology  and in reality are one big science.
(The positive effects of chemicals are the hallmark of
PHARMACOLOGY, while the negative effects become the focus of TOXICOLOGY.)

ENVIRONMENTAL TOXICOLOGY
is a science that deals with the interrelationships of life forms, and the effects of chemicals in ecosystems.

Some of the studied plant produced chemicals may become useful drugs or they may simply serve as toxic chemicals that directly or interdirectly affect the human species.

ENVIRONMENTAL TOXICOLOGY  is an exciting area because it allows scientists to develop a knowledge base on the effects of chemicals, and thus, allows decision making based on science and not on speculations.

NUTRITION also falls under the jurisdiction of ENVIRONMENTAL TOXICOLOGY when consumers are considering using vitamin and mineral supplements or "natural" foods or concoctions derived from plant parts to prevent disease or create wellness.
