Are Mountaineering and Adventure Activities Dangerous? By their very nature all adventure and extreme activities have an element of danger. This is often also one of the main attractions to these activities. Managing the danger factor is one of the challenges of the great outdoors and facing your personal fears are part of the adventure. Respect for the mountain, the natural environment and other people is the main ingredient in the mountain safety recipe and is always taught at Venture Club. Venture Club is run by qualified professional mountain guides with many years of experience in the mountains of South Africa and abroad. All guides have first-aid and emergency training and carry emergency supplies and cellphones with them on all adventures. Compared to everyday activities (riding in the car, crossing the street) and other sports (like Rugby) mountaineering activities are safer and healthier and this is proven by statistics. |
What Vehicle is used for travelling at Venture Club? The club mostly uses the VW Microbus owned by Venture Forth. The vehicle is serviced regularly and always mechanically sound and roadworthy. |
What equipment is used for safety? All mountaineering safety equipment used carry the CE and/or UIAA rating for mountaineering equipment. Equipment is replaced at regular intervals and inspected during every lesson. |
What rules are there at Venture Club? Venture Club upholds basic school behaviour rules (although we do not really care how long your hair is or whether your shirt is hanging out!). Guides fulfil the role of teacher and expect basic respect and manners for the safety of the hole group. Do not throw anything, at all, EVER! Do not damage the environment in any way! Take only pictures, leave only footprints! Basic Venture Forth Conditions of Booking apply. A copy can be obtained from the office. |
Why do I need to sign a waiver and release if Venture Club is so safe? A waiver and release does not give the guides/instructors a free ticket to do what they want and disregard safety. It protects the company against claims arising from possible accidents in the mountain or while travelling and also form liability for the actions of participants and third parties. On the waiver you sign that you understand that adventure and mountaineering activities hold danger by their very nature and that the mountains are unpredictable areas. You also admit that you are participating in the activities voluntarily. The waiver also protects Venture Forth against claims for the possible loss of personal belongings while at Venture Club. Our insurance company expects the waivers to be signed by all participants and their guardians and there will be no exceptions. Without the waiver you are not covered by public liability insurance and you will not be allowed to attend Venture Club. |
