mahahabang gabi ang nagpahiwatig
ng pagdating ng lamig ng panahon

at sinamsam nito ang nalalabing bango
ng natuyong rosal na tuluyang naglaho

samantala ang sakit ng pagkawalay mo sa akin
ay lalong tumitindi sa pagdaan ng araw


English translation

encroaching long nights precede
the first onslaught of autumn chill

which robs the dried gardenia
the last of its remaining scent

meanwhile your absence has grown
more palpable each passing day
