Hospital blues
by Victor P. Gendrano
the telephone
continues to ring
ambulance sirens In the hospital waiting room, I join the relatives of patients scheduled to undergo surgery. Many have grave looks and tired eyes with worries and concerns written all over them. Some fill the time reading newspapers and magazines and a few try to solve old cross-word puzzles. Families huddle together in hushed whispers while some with no companions stare blankly ahead.
Suddenly, from the corner a heavy-set middle-aged woman starts to snore which grows louder and longer filling the erstwhile silent room.
autumn full moon
they wheel my wife out
from surgery
