Haiku for January

by Victor P. Gendrano

a plastic flower blooms
under the hospital window
winter sunshine

long winter night
a broken bat crowds his room
runaway son

midnight chill
I wait for new year
alone

deja vu
he recycles last year's
resolutions

Mainichi Daily News,
March 1, 2003 (No. 645)

new year's day
shredded calendar leaves
float in the wind

fireworks on tv
a veteran hides
under the bed

icy winter
she disdains helping hand
and slips again

icicles thaw
from frosted flowers
indian summer
