ok, I guess I should start off with what a unitard is. I know to some of you that is second nature, but if this is your first costume, you might not know. A unitard is a leotard with arms and legs. so it's baisnly the suit that they wear. you will want one made ot of Nylon/Lycra. you can also buy them with a cotton/lycra mix, but the nylon is MUCH better It is shiny and it is warmer if you are planing on trick-or-treating in it. lots of people say that it doesn't hold dye as well as the cotton ones do, but I have found that it works fine.

most cats wear a mock-turtle-neck uni. This means that there is a bit of a collar on it. there are some with a boat neck uni (vid. tantomile/coricopat) but most sstill have the mock one. there are lots of places that you can buy them if you have no idea where to look. you can find them on any internet dance store, and you MIGHT be able to go down to a costume/Dance shope in your city/ town/ whatever and get one. I have had NO luck with this and I don't know many who have. you can also make one yourself. you can use he kwic-sew patternand that works quite well, even if it does have a front seam. riversedgedancewear.com, adadance.com,  and nydancewear.com all have relativly cheep unitard the work wonderfully.

now, for the people that bought them and tried them on and said, 'OMG this is totally see-through!" (well, maybe if you talk like a valley girl, you might) there is stuff you can do. first, if you are going to colour the major areas to cover with black or another dark colour, you shouls have no problem. but if you are going as say- Victoria or some other whitish cat, you have three choices:

1: buy a liner. they are not that expensive, and they cover up a lot.
2: you can buy floral spray and paint the INSIDE of it white. lol, and spray paint will not work
3: if you are wearing it outside and its cold, you can wear white long (thermal) underwear to go under it. that worked out fine for me! (but i did get very warm)

for colouring you can use lots of things. paint, dye, fabric markers, squeeze bottles, etc. I find that I like the markers the best, but thats because I have needed them for my costumes.

Patterns! lol, I have started some, and other will follow (I promise) but if you need one in a rush, you can e-mail me, and I will probably make it for you.
