S A Y I N G G O O D B Y E

Saying goodbye would never be easy,
Especially because of the good times we shared.
You were a shoulder to cry on
And a friend to laugh with.

I knew you were having troubles,
But I didn't know
It would come to this,
I thought it would blow over.

I know now it didn't.
I should have been there,
To ease the pain,
But I wasn't and now it's too late.

You sought comfort
From the wrong source,
You thought you were easing your pain,
But you were only prolonging it.

When you injected that needle,
You didn't know it would be the end.
You were planning to quit,
It was only one more.

But it was one too many;
You collapsed and died,
Without a goodbye,
All I can do is blame myself.
