NATIONAL SEMINAR ON "INDIAN PHIlOSOPHICAL HERITAGE:
A REUNDERSTANDING"

Our college, which was conferred the status of Autonomy in September 2004, is celebrating its Diamond Jubilee from January 2006 to January 2007. Coinciding with the Diamond Jubilee of the college, 'the Department of Philosophy organized a National Seminar on "Indian Philosophical Heritage: A Reunderstanding" from 8'" to 10'" March 2006. Indian Council of Philosophical Research, New Delhi has sponsored the seminar with a substantial grant.
About the Department
The Department of Philosophy had its origin in the appointment of Prof S.Rajagopala Sastri as Lecturer in Logic(in the year 1946). Later,the Department came into full swing in 1952 when Prof. P. Sankara Narayanan, headed the Department. Distinguished faculty members ofthis department include eminent personalities like Dr R.Balasubramanian, Dr T.N.Ganapathy and others. Now,ours is a P.G.and Research Department. So far, 41 M.Phil and 21 Ph.D scholars were awarded degrees.(More...)
Theme of the Seminar:
The popular understanding of PhilosophicalHeritage of India refers to both the orthodox and the heterodox schools of Indian philosophy,though our heritage Includes the numerous tribal cults and their philosophies. The ontological, epistemological, logical and axiological aspects of our philosophical heritage have undergone several revisions. There have been varied interpretations on Reality, Destiny of man and the means of attaining moksa. Scientific and technological advancements have challenged the traditional understanding of our heritage.
