REAST & WICEN
CHARCT Hamfest 2nd Dec 2006: Well, in fine Tasmanian tradition the weather really turned it on for us with four seasons in one day including snow but for those that attended I did not hear one complaint about the facilities and certainly inside the hall was VERY comfortable.
STER Endurence Ride - WICEN - 11th-12th Aug 2006:VK7s JGD and FDNA were seperated and FDNA established in ARN's trailer at the road side with a portable pack radio.  This set up took place well before dawn when temperatures were at the overnight lowest.  FDNA had expected to be sat in a heated vehicle and dressed accordingly.  An almost Pan Pan call to Base, claiming the loss of both feet to frost bite and rising rapidly to include lower legs and knees,  resulted in the delivery of a sleeping bag.  A suggested alternative involving the use of the still warm residue of the passing of the first horses was rejected.
Subaru Safari 2006 - WICEN - 15-16 July 2006: The southern Tasmania WICEN group provides results communications for the Tasmanian round of the Australian Rally Championship.  Competitor car numbers and times are  sent by voice from Special Stage Starts and Finishes back to Rally Command.  This year, we successfully trialled APRS tracking of a Course Car, co-habiting the APRS packet traffic with phone traffic on the same network.
REAST Field Weekend - 3rd-4th June 2006: The REAST Field Weekend was held at The Lea Scout Camp. The weekend focused on portable/mobile operation and the theory and practicalities of this exciting mode of amateur radio.
Targa Tasmania 2006 - WICEN - 25th-30th April 2006: This year we had one of the biggest communications teams we have ever had. Wicen provide comm's team for SOS, Chicanes, Radio Points and Repeaters
Subaru Safari 2005 - WICEN - 8th-10th July 2005: Thirty WICEN personal provided the communications network for Subaru Safari 2005 in the soutern tasmania forests near Geevston. This is part of the ARC and TRC.
