(Harrison left VA and enlisted as Adam Funkhauser in PA.) Blacksmith; born March 19, 1821, Shenandoah County, VA; died April 19, 1907 in Borwn?, West Virginia Married Isabella Cunningham (widow of Anthony A. Cunningham) 1885. Enlisted 8/18/1862 at McDowell as Private in 11th VA Cav., Co G as company blacksmith. Deserted 1863 and went north. Enlisted 20 Nov 1863 in 3rd PA Heavy Artillery, Battery L (union) under name ADAM Funkhouse and was absent on furlough when battery was mustered out 9 Nov 1865. Widow Isabella Cunningham Maphis filed for pension of Harrison A. Maphis aka Adam Funkhouser died Sadis, WV April 19, 1907. Application filed by attorney, E. H. Reeves and Company Oct. 10, 1907.
(conflicting information of Harrison Maphis. Not sure if there were one or two Harrison's at this time: 1- Roster of Confederate Soldiers shows a Harrison Maphis as VA 162nd Militia Co. Found a notice of an article in the Staunton Spectator July 1861 Newspaper, (page 1, column 1) as "Among the wounded, there were three from this town (Rockbridge).... and Philip Maphis in the arm and side". (not found or verified)
Found a notice of an article in the Staunton Spectator July 9, 1861 Newspaper (page 1, column 3)as "We had three of the West Augusta Guard slightly wounded -- Jack Doyle, Kennedy and Maphis -- who were sent to Winchester." (not found or verified)
