Violet Skies

It’s dark

The sun has gone

So has the birds

I’m all alone

Sitting here

Waiting for the one that’ll never come.

Feeling a sense of dread

I look at the window

A sliver of light reaches my eyes

A sign of hope, I pray

But that’s too good to be true.

I know you’ve departed

I feel the emptiness all around me

I feel it most in my heart.

Closing my eyes

I will the pain to go away

My breath is labored

My lips numb as I whisper your name.

Walking toward the light

Feeling the pain with every step

I part the curtains and look far beyond the trees.

So beautiful, I said

As beautiful as our tragic existence

I felt a tear smearing my powder

I wiped it off.

I gazed longingly at the violet sky

I am still here
