Karry is the big dog and Connor is the small brown dog in this picture. Karry and her 5 puppies were found by the State Police in Muskegon walking the streets trying to stay alive. This is a picture I took the day they came here to Sister's Haven . I knew at first site that Connor was sick but wasn't sure just how sick until about an hour after they were here . Besides being starved Connor had parvo. His litter mates seemed to be ok so they were isolated form mom and Connor. It was late in the day so there were no vets office open. I made him as comfortable as I could and first thing in the morning I called Mr. John who does wild life rescue.Who is well versed in treating animals , John came right over and brought all the medicine I would need to treat Connor . Treatment was started , but what a sick little boy he was, it was round the clock treatment for him and it was touch and go.Connor had a will to live and that he did after many days of treatment he started to improve. I would spend many hours with Connor treating him and staying with him. He started to eat and his favorite was small little milk bones, I gave him as many as he would eat he also like baby food Chicken and Beef was his favorite. Days turned into weeks and Connor was gaining weight he was seen at Petsmart with Dr. Chris who charted his progress. Every one there was rooting for Connor.. Connor was indeed a survivor . Mom or none of the litter mate ever came down with parvo. But were isolated for the 18 days the vets told us to do then one by one they all found loving forever homes. Connor was housed alone so I spent many hours with him to keep him company he learned to sit , shake hands, lay down , he was such a smart boy and oh so loving. He was also a singer he would start singing every time I would go out to the shelter...I loved Connor and knew it would be hard to let him go I toyed with the idea of adopting him myself but knew that I was being selfish I wanted him to have his own family and not be one of many..I turned down many families for Connor I had to find the perfect family... Indeed I did fine the perfect family for him they had a fenced yard even across their driveway a stay at home mom and a wonderful 12 year old sister who was one of the nicest your ladies I have ever met . they adopted Connor and also adopted a beautiful yellow lab mix female for him name Sophie... Connors family calls me often to update me on him and also brings him and Sophie to visit when we have adoption days at Quality Farm and Fleet...I still love Connor but I am so happy he has his own loving forever family...Thank You Connor's family for loving him and Sophie and making it easier for me to let him go....Connor will forever be in my heart... |
