METIS

In 1814, as part of a gift giving ceremony, North West Company partner Alexander MacDonnell presented the Métis People with their (blue infinity) flag, which would soon become a trademark for the nation. The red infinity flag has been used since early days, some claim it to be the hunting flag, while others claim it was used by Métis connected with the Hudson Bay Company.

A Metis from the Historic Metis Settlement Area in Eastern Ontario; A United Empire Loyalist whose ancestors were partners in the North West Company. His Metis origin can be traced to 1780s in Ile-a-la-Crosse, Saskatchewan

On either side of the armorial achievement is the Pipe Banner, which hang suspended from Alexander Campbell's Bagpipes, when he plays.

Two of Dr. Campbell's ancestors were put on trial for their part in the Battle of Seven Oaks.

The New Nation, which evolved primarily out the the Prodigy of the Nor’ Westers and their descendants assumed the trappings of Statehood. Flags is but one of the visible signs of that Statehood. A historic letter from a Partner of the North West Fur Trading Company to his family in the Cornwall, Ontario states…..”Tell Jack that his Countrymen….. . It was these same Nor’Westers who presented the Metis their historic Infinity flag.
