Fallace, Peggy (posted June 5, 2005)
I was viewing the new pages last night and just heard about Valerie Safarty's passing. This triggered many memories of her and I driving in my dilapidated car to cosmetology at Memorial. You could only get in the driver side door and out the passenger side door. We had to climb over each other several times a day going back and forth to South. I did run in to her a few years after high school at Elmhurst Hospital. I was living in Queens at the time. As I was driving this morning to the gym, thinking about Valerie and that car, it triggered a memory of my father and how I learned that I had passed my road test. I came home from school and he said in a gruff voice like I was in trouble, "Go to Tommy's gas station and bring home the car!" I said I can't do that! He said, well you can now and handed me the keys to that dilapidated car along with my brand new license. That memory made my day today, so thank you Valerie, and thank you Steve! I ran into Carl Fornieri in Staples in Valley Stream right after my husband died in Jan of 1998. Carl had just moved back to VS after separating from his wife. I read his name tag, I would have never recognized him from looking at him! I asked him if he was a South graduate, and he asked me who I was. We had a good laugh. I would see him there all the time since I live 4 blocks away and sometimes I'm there more than their employees are. One day we were talking about the up coming 30th anniversary of our graduation. I nearly had a stroke thinking it was so close at the time. I figured I'd need a ton of plastic surgery before then! He was a really nice kid and grew up to be a nice adult, I was sorry to hear of his passing too. As far a news for me, I was Margaret Fallace, - Peggy, I just completed my BA degree at the College of New Rochelle in January. My formal graduation was in May and I graduated with honors. Better late then never! I started college after my husband died 7 years ago. I am in the process of choosing schools to continue on to get a Masters in education. I am currently employed at the Dept. of Ed. in NYC and work in Springfield Gardens, Queens -- just 3 miles from South. Both my 13 year old daughter and my 16 year old son go to South now. That is really weird! So here we are at the 35 year and I still need a ton of plastic surgery, oh well! I'm going to make copies of the Reunion info and pass it on to Richard Conlon, Angela Conerty, Janice Butler and Patty Lotocke. Angela and Janice work at Carbonaro (Harbor Road School), my mom knows Patty's mom and Richie’s daughter just turned sweet sixteen and invited my son to the party, too bad he was grounded! Fink, Carol (posted Oct. 1, 2004) Hello from "Hurricane Central!!!!" Yep, after living here in West Palm Beach for over 18 yrs, I can no longer say that we occasionally get hit by a hurricane. We had TWO in the course of exactly 3 weeks. We had minor damage but living for up to a week without electricity or air conditioning can make one pretty testy. Our business (travel agency) has been doing pretty well considering both the economy and number of online sites. We can't complain. Now if we can just re coup our losses after the 2 storms we will be just fine. There are actually quite a few of us living down here in the Sunshine state. I am wondering if a mini-reunion in Florida would be feasible. Who knows? Maybe in the winter... Posted May 1, 2005 Hi everyone! It's really cool reading everyone's bios. After going to the University of Oklahoma (where I met my husband, Frank) and Syracuse University, we lived in Long Island for a few years before settling here in West Palm Beach, Florida. I ended up in the travel biz and now own my own agency. I am fortunate to be in a retiree market, so the internet has not really affected me at all. You would be surprised how many of your mothers I have met!! I have a son, Jonathan, 26 who lives and works in Dallas and a daughter, Alaina, 23 who lives with me and attends the Florida Culinary Institute. It should be a lot of fun seeing everyone at the reunion. |
