Herbert, Jonathan  (posted Sept 1, 2005)
So I’m thinking I should put the last thirty-five years into a paragraph or two (or seven), as so many of my happy and eloquent classmates have done.  My wife, Suzanne, and I just celebrated our twelfth wedding anniversary this August.  We live in Brooklyn, near Red Hook.  She works in finance, writes poetry, and best of all, puts up with me.  We have had a great life together, and I just cannot believe how blessed I am.  I read an entire Harry Potter book at her last reunion, so I won’t be dragging her to this one to watch me talk to you people.
I am a fanatic squash player; I started playing about ten years ago, and, through a useful application of my intensity, have managed reach a fairly competent level of play.  I try to play at least two or three hours every week.
I’m still an artist, and currently have a studio in “dumbo” under the Manhattan Bridge.  It’s mind-boggling to think of having stayed so firmly on a path from such an early age.  Good lord, I have now been making art for over forty years, fifty if you count the “Broken Antenna” that I drew when I was two which my mom still has hanging in the house.  I fell into a second, related career along the way:  some days I make paintings, mainly landscapes, and other days I create very slick, computer-generated medical illustrations for pharmaceutical companies.  You could say I sell drugs.  Anyone who is interested can see examples on my websites:  www.jonathanherbert.com and www.computerillustrator.com.
I am one of the pioneers of “computer illustration.”  In the last twenty one years I have established a reputation as an A list medical illustrator and director of animation.  I count among my credits the well known Centrum "People" spot which aired during the Superbowl; I have also created the CGI in many other broadcast commercials.  I am a specialist in medical mechanism of action illustration.  My illustrations and animations have helped launch numerous drugs.  You may have seen me in a 48 Hours episode that ran about six years ago.  Over the years, I have been a featured speaker at the Siggraph and Siebold conferences; and weird, but true, I am internationally renowned, and have lectured as far afield as Karachi, Pakistan.
As far as the painting goes, my artwork has been shown in solo and group exhibitions.  In New York City, my work was featured in shows at the Frank Marino Gallery, the Nico Smith Gallery, and the New York Public Library. In addition, my paintings are in corporate and private collections throughout the United States and abroad, including those of Pfizer Incorporated and Kirkland & Ellis in New York City.
Representational and reverent, my work is site specific; I paint on the beach, in the woods and in gardens.  When working in the studio, my goal is to transubstantiate paint into the essence and experience of the natural world from which we all spring, and by which we are all renewed.  I layer meaning into the visual remains of kinetic experience, capturing a world of vibrating, numinous beauty.  Painting, I believe, is prayer.  It is the way I worship.
Most important of all, I have learned that achieving contentment, serenity, and joy is an Inside Job, and that how lavishly we love is far more important than the professional accolades we have attained or the things we have acquired.  I am a chaplain at Unity of New York.  I endeavor to share beauty and wonder with the people in my life, every day.

Mark Herzog (posted June 5, 2005)
I am alive and well living in Rockville Centre with my wife, Marcie and twin sons Matthew and Daniel.  I have a dental practice in Brooklyn, and Marcie is an attorney with the Inspector General's Office of the MTA.  Matt and Dan are finishing Jr. year of High School (Southside) and their passion is ice hockey (of course).  I've been back to South High a few times for the boys' athletic activities, such as track and wrestling. I am looking forward to the reunion.
