Remembering Marilyn Pisciotta There isn't a memory I have about my high school years that doesn't include Marilyn. We walked to and from school together every day. We loved the "Battle of the Bands" at the Green, school dances, American Legion Dances, hanging out at Paul's Diner and at the bowling alley. We worked together at Grand Union, double dated, went to Palisades Park, got our driving permits together, and the list goes on and on. I can still remember the day she met her boyfriend, Joe Costanzo (from Central). In September 1972 she and Joe got married. Marilyn and I sort of drifted apart at that point. I was a working girl who was out on my own, and she was a married woman starting a family. After I got married in '79, I began to reminisce about the "good old days." I thought of her often over the years, remembering the laughter, the tears, the stupid things we'd done (sneaking past and ex-boyfriend's house in a car and the horn getting stuck!) and promising myself that I would find the time to reconnect. It's a funny thing about time -- it seems to slip away without you noticing. Marilyn passed away in September, 1985 from Hodgkins Disease, leaving behind her husband, three children, her parents, two brothers, four sisters, and a friend who will always remember her with a smile. -- submitted by Diane Dudley Kaempf |
