Why? Because I wish to give something to the world free. Please Read This Section! Many things combine to create the person you see as an adult, They are life experiences and pains, joys and confusions but mostly they are just life in the real world. For my friends in Uniform: This poem was one of those things for me. High Flight Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth And danced the skys on laughter silvered wings: Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth Of sun-split clouds--and done a hundred things You have not dreamed of--wheeled and soared and swung Hung in the sunlit silence, Hov'ring there, I've chased the shouting wind along and flung My eager craft through footless halls of air. Up, up the long delirious, burning blue I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace Where never lark, or even eagle flew, And, while with silent, lifting mind i've trod The high untrespassed sancity of space, Put out my hand, and touched the face of God. Many of you know this but here something that may surprise you, This was written by a Royal canadian Air force Flight Lieutenant John Gillespie Magee Jr. shortly before his death at the age of 19 years, Thats right our United States Air Force Hymm was written by a Canadian, So the next time you think of Canada remember that we retiree's, veterans, members and the families thereof who have given in part or total to the United States of America Air Force to Serve Protect and Defend you until death Proudly Do so under the National Anthem written by an Englishman, The Flag paid for in blood, while the Hymm was written by a Canadian and the Colors are the same colors as worn by the Royal French Ballonist Forces in World War 1. Now doesnt that give you a little different view of America, the Idea not the place and why we Americans by Gods Grace wish all of the world a chance to bask in the glow of liberty. W. J.
