LANDING GEAR

I warned you all I wanted some landing gear on my EZ!
So when I got hold of a pair of discarded GWS Mustang wheels, I got started. First two x two
pieces of light ply, and a cut out where the axel will slide in.

Glued together with a thin film of 5 minute epoxy.

I cut of a piece of the original Mustang's landing gear wire, and put a piece of heat shrink on it.
When test fitting, I found it still too loose, so on top of the (clear) heat shrink I put another piece of (red) heat shrink.

The wheel will stick about this much out from under the LG box.

Here's the ready box. Light ply sides, and 1mm balsa top and front and back, thin CA'd together.
I dipped the wheel axels in vaseline before putting them in place. The opening where I slid in
the wheel I closed of with two pieces of balsa and a few drops of thin CA. The vaseline was used
to keep the axel from getting glued in.

Anticipating some of you will mention the weight penalty, only 10 grams!

Next, figuring out where top place the LG in the fuse. From everything I've read, the LG
should be just in front of the CG. That's about here.

Dug out the foam. Not too deep, or I will cut into the antenna and battery bay. The gap you see
in the picture, is where the antenna tube was supposed to be. Luckily I made a mistake while building,
and raised the antenna tube to the battery bay's bottom level. I closed the gap with some spare foam and household Goop.

A very tight fit, and glued with a very thin layer of Polyurethane glue.

Now, does that look cool, or what?
