Unicorn Totalloss

It was bound to happen one time. But it still hurts when it happens...
Guess what I'm going to ask for my birthday...

TE torn. At first glance glue-able

Servohatch moved forward. At first glance glue-able

Batterybay tape cover torn. At first glance glue-able

Bottom view of torn TE. At first glance, still glue-able

Rx sockets bend. Not the end of the world...

Batterybay epoxy floor torn from the EPP, and EPP torn in the corners. Now I'm getting worried.

Area in front of the motortube torn. I don't like the look of this.

A view from the rear of the TE. You can see the torn EPP here.

The CF flatrod broke!!!

A clear view how far the foam in front of the motor tube is torn.

The EPP is torn in front and along the side of the motor tube.

The nose is totally disintegrated. Slight pressure of my finger and see how far it bends.

And I kept the best for last...

I don't think I can recharge that battery again.

How did that happen?

Last week I flew, and while coming in for landing I had a glitch. Still, I managed to land
without damaging anything or anyone. Due to the unusual wind direction (South) I had to fly closer
to some electrical highwires then usual, and assumed that was what caused the glitch.
I should have known better. Others flew there without a problem, and I myself had flown my Filip600
there without a problem! This should have lit up my internal red warning lights! Something similar
happened about a year-and-a-half ago, and we found that the Xtal of my Berg Rx had gone south.
I should have known!!! The damage at the time was minimal, mainly
because I was still flying a sp400 setup.
This time, I was flying level at 1/2 throttle at about 25-30 meters altitude when I totally lost control
in the middle of the field. The motor pumped to full throttle off and on (I could hear it pulsing)
and my poor 'Corn augered in at full speed. Brushless full speed, not speed400...

Apart from the battery (duuuh) all electronics seem to be ok.
But I will send my Berg Rx for a checkup though, before I am going to use it again.

And now, a testimony to PQ's safety quality

So, I crashed and -finally- totalled my Unicorn. First maiden was August 2003 with a standard
sp400 setup with NiMh batteries. Renovated and re-maidened with a brushless setup and Lipos a year later.
So we had a good run together. Amazingly, when the 'Corn augered in straight down full throttle
and I heard the sickening "thud", while walking over I moved the sticks on my Tx and everything still worked!
No smoke, no flash, no heat. Just this:

I took the pack home, and placed it in an oven proof dish. Checking the temperature every 15 minutes.

The pack just sat there. It didn't get hot, swell, smoke. Nothing. This shows you just how
safe PolyQuest builds its' packs. Curious how the packs were build, I took the pack to the
end of the garden, where we have a sand pit.
Kids, don't do this at home!
I wanted to salvage the TAB plug, at least that is my excuse. Since there was no smoke,
fire, heat, etc 6 hours after the crash, I was fairly certain that the cells were -miraculously- undamaged!
So, very, very carefully, I peeled the covering of, and proceeded to dismantle the pack.

I was surprised to find no seperation between the packs.

et voila! PolyQuest 3S1P revealed.
So the quality and safety is not in the packing of the cells, it's the cells themselves!

THANKS POLYQUEST!
