Build conclusion | |||||||
Since the wind has not been in my favour lately, I can as yet only comment on the build, and the plane itself. More about flight later. Throughout the assembly, one question kept going through my mind. "Can a total newby build this?" Well, I think the answer is yes...and no. With the manual that was included with my Easy Glider, a total newby would have problems. Before I rattle of negatives let me first tell you all the positives, which I think outweigh any negatives I found. The Easy Glider looks the part. It is a very pretty semi-scale glider. The fact that you can detach the wings easily, and break them down in two parts, makes it a great keep-in-your-car sloper. The Easy is very light, AUW comes to 290 grams (9.9 Oz). It should do great in light airs and uptill 15-18Mph winds. I would imagine that with some wing reinforcing, ballast can be added when flying with more wind. It takes any size servo you want, with minimal modifications. Plenty of room in the nose to add a tow release. Easy to add ailerons, should you feel the need. All pushrods and carbon rods are installed. The pushrods are pre-bend and have clevises already attached. In short, this is a very, very complete package, that looks great, is very strong (all EPP), simple to assemble, and from what I've seen on Windrider's website, very reasonably priced. BUT. Anyone who has build one or two planes will have no problem assembling the Easy. However, the newby would have serious problems with some minor deficiencies I found, that could easily be avoided with a better written (more complete) manual. Mind you, everything I have cut/taped/glued/changed could easily be done by a supervised 10 year old The pre-hinged surfaces did not move freely. The horizontal stab did not fit straight. There is no mention on how to route the antenna. There is no mention on how to attach the canopy. The manual mentions the CG measured from the nose. Seeing that the fuse is very rounded it would have been easier to measure from the LE (4.5 Cm/?1.77"), or have a small indentation or notch in the wing. And? lastly, since the Easy is all EPP, it also all white. Some colouring on the wings LE and underside should be applied. Maybe some cool wing decals could be included, but at least the manual should mention to put some color on. |
